Rabbits challenged with H. pylori had the highest incidence of gastritis (94% at day 49) and the lowest incidence of hepatic inflammatory disease (2% at day 49) compared to gastritis (60% at day 49) and hepatic inflammation (50% at day 49) in controls. In the RGLN of challenged rabbits gastritis was seen from day 21 and at day 49 was almost always present. In contrast, none of the control rabbits showed gastritis in the RGLN. No histological changes were found in the spleen and local LNs of challenged animals compared to controls. The cause of the absence of gastrointestinal inflammatory disease in the rabbit following H. pylori challenge is unclear.
